Let's get it figured out right away...start

                                                               Start Small

You do not need to be big to start up a new landscaping business. You can start small and grow from there. I like this popular saying, "Rome was not built in a day"
What you just need to start is to get some landscape design classes, maybe through a community college. Search for a school for this subject in your location.

You would take classes on horticulture. You should be able to learn about the kinds of plants that grow in your location.

Try to know more about landscaping such as lawn care, patios, gardening, fertilization, weed maintenance, and hardscapes.
Why? Because definitely, most clients would ask you some challenging questions to know if you  know what you are doing.

So your responses would determine what they feel about you.

According to study.com the type of landscape classes and degree level required will depend on your career goals.

For example, if you want to advance your career in landscape architecture there are associate's degree programs and a certificate in landscape business management.

Also, landscape technology, horticulture, and landscape design, landscape construction and landscape preservation, and then, landscape history.

                                                    Obtain license and permit

Every business operations require a government permit, and every government has their individual license and permit requirements, in local, state, or federal levels.

Also, the government requirements may depend on your type of business activities.

You should be able to consult with professionals in your space to find out, which Laws and regulations your government requires from you.

                                            Find a mentor

You should have a mentor. There are professionals who have wealth of experience in this field you want to learn from.

You can learn how to model much of what you do by how he runs things.

For example, one of the best actionable steps you should learn is instead of chasing after a large number of clients and end up getting a little outcome.

It's like when you throw five cycle balls in the air hoping to catch all, you may end up catching one, or none.

You rather maintain a short list of clients you could work deeply well with.

You would learn some tactics from a mentor or mentors. I remember a tactic I learned from my mentor in my space which I never knew existed.

It may look simple to someone else but to me, it was a great discovery.

Before, when we want to attend to a client on a project we first of all present details of items needed for their job as a shade structure company.

But I learned that I can simply calculate the job per square meter. For example, our recently concluded project was done that way.

recent-shade-structure-job

Three competitors brought their quotation of the job, the first one 350,000, the second one brought a quotation of 300,000 and the third one brought a quotation of 280,000.

Meanwhile, base on our pattern we simply told them 18000 per square meter.  How we new other businesses quotation was when we have already started the job.

The client asked me what would it take me to do the job I simply replied that I charge per square meter.

Which means where he wanted the shade structure to start and where it would end was 7.5 meters in length. Now the front side (7.5m)+ the back side(7.5m) if it is square in shape =15

I then calculated, 15 meters x 18000=270,000.
So I applied what I learned from my mentor and I was able to beat my competition.

Conclusion: To start a landscaping business and make money in 2019 and beyond you should create a business plan, find a mentor or mentors, follow industry trends and also industry leaders, equip yourself with the required knowledge, and seek for government permit and licenses.
